Parents and school administrators attended a PTSA meeting at which they were informed of the new and up to date plans for Pinson High School .
Architect Emory Kirkwood presented a photo of the high school after completion as well as three drawings of the interior and exterior improvements.
The new phase of the school includes a two story building extends from the current lunch room out into the parking area. The building will house four new classrooms and two labs.
According to Dr. Rafael McDaniel who was also at the meeting some of the regular rooms could be used for labs as well.
A total of 10 rooms, plus storage rooms and elevators will be added.
The lunchroom will also be extended in the rear area.
A Fine Arts Center/Coliseum will be built next to the new classrooms attached by a walkway.
The Center will include a lobby, theatre seating for 650 people, a 4000 square foot band room, a 2000 square foot choir room, storage rooms and loading areas to accommodate all rooms.
The buses will be re-routed to in front of the school and the side parking area will be moved up closer to Highway 75.
The greenhouse otherwise known as Coach Stalls room, will be relocated to the lake area.
Other additions include handicapped accessible elevators, the girls gym will get air-conditioning and seating, the main gym is to receive heat and air units. The stage in the main gym will be torn down and 250 seating to be added in its place.
Lighting will be added to the road behind the school. These additions will be implemented if, according to Hammonds , “funds stretch that far”.
The entire construction project is pending approval by the Building Commission.
Hammonds was ask if something could be done about the tennis court and fence. He said, “It does look kind of bad”. Then ask Dr. McDaniel to make a note to look in to it.
Hammonds and McDaniel said the new project should be completed by August of 2008.
