Three athletic programs at Pinson High School have received a total of $5000.00 donated from Senator Jack Biddle. Pinson High Assistant Principal Russell Cofield said in a recent interview that Biddle donated the money to the school from his Special Projects Funds after receiving a written request for extra funding for Pinson Athletics. Cofield said he mailed out several requests from Jefferson County Commissioners all the way up to state Senators who cover the Pinson School system.

Cofield said the request was made for additional funds to help cover essential needs in Pinson’s Athletic program. He said sports programs allow students to be involved in something that keeps them focused therefore they are motivated to improve academically. Prior to sending out the letters in the spring of 2006, coaches were asked to provide a list of needs for their athletic programs.

Girls volley ball Coach Kennamer and, Basketball and Soccer Coach Henderson was able to get their needs turned in and will split the funds equally. Kennamer said he plans to use the funds towards a new volleyball net. Coach Henderson said she will use the funds for soccer & basketball training aids and spirit bags.
