According to Lt. Randy Christian of the Sheriffs Office, 49 year old Roger Mayes drove to the gas pumps and entered the BP Station and told the clerk “you are going to die and go to hell”. Christian said it’s believed he was irate because the gas pump was not turned on since the station has a pay first policy.
Mayes did not pay for any gas so the clerk did not turn on the gas pump. Christian said that Mayes went back to his vehicle, drove away from the pump and pulled up toward the building and revved up his engine and then at a high rate of speed Mayes drove through the plate glass window and into the cashier counter and the coffee counter. The clerk jumped out of the way to avoid being run over. The clerk stated that Mayes kept spinning his tires inside the store.
When deputies arrived on the scene, at first Mayes would not get out of his vehicle. When he finally exited the vehicle he charged at a Deputy.
The Deputy tried to taze Mayes but the taser missed, another Deputy then tazed Mayes and he was incapacitated. Deputies were able to handcuff him. Center Point Paramedics treated victim for minor injuries. Mayes was arrested for Attempted Murder and Resisting Arrest and transported to County Jail without further incident.
