The Clay Chalkville Middle School math team competed in a tournament on Saturday, January 30 at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. Cameron McGuffie placed 8th in the 6th grade division1 Dr. Chris Walker said the Math team only practiced twice a week after school. He said this was quite an accomplishment for McGuffie.
The CCMS Science Olympiad Team competed against 15 middle schools in the Jefferson County area and placed in 7 events. Tanner Hames, Chelsea Hicks, and Rebecca Reid placed 1st in Experimental Design; Janie Martin and Missy Hebson placed 2nd in Solar System; Tanner Hames and Chalsey Hicks placed 2nd in Science Crime Busters, Abigail Brockman and Missy Hebson placed 4th in Dynamic Planet and in Ornithology; Jordan Young and Janie Martin placed 4th in Anatomy; Chelsey Hicks and Rebecca Reid placed 5th in Write It, Do It!
Chalkville Elementary 5th grader Stephanie McGill won the area spelling bee on January 22. She will represent Jefferson County in the next level of the spelling bee on February 10.
The CCMS Pageant will be held Saturday, February 13 beginning at 12 noon at Clearbranch United Methodist Church. This year’s theme is Mardi Gras. All proceeds go to expenses at the school such as mounting digital projectors in each classroom.
Clay Elementary 4th grade and Music Department will honor Black History month with a presentation on February 18. One show begins at 1:30 the second show begins at 2:00.
Forty five 7th grade students will be participating in a hands-on experience at Dauphin Island Sea Lab between February 7-9.
